Risk Factors For High Cholesterol
Most people buy and eat food without ever realizing that they are putting foods in their body that could eventually harm them. There are certain risk factors that can make some people more susceptible to heart disease than others. High cholesterol in a person can lead to heart disease, but if people smoke, they are at an even greater risk for heart disease.
Obesity is the number one cause for heart disease because extra weight can cause high blood pressure in a person. Genetic heart diseases can make a person prone to higher cholesterol levels, and can cause greater risk for a stroke or a heart attack. People with high blood pressure are also at risk for a heart attack. There are many factors that can cause high blood pressure. If a person’s LDL cholesterol levels are higher than 190, they are at a greater risk. People who are diabetics also have problems with high blood pressure and high cholesterol levels. These conditions are already preexisting conditions that can add to a person’s cholesterol problems. People who are eating high trans fat foods with hydrogenated oil, plus are obese, diabetic, or smokers, they could be creating a double fire storm.
A person who is obese, can still have lower cholesterol levels if they are watching the type of foods that they are consuming. Some people who are obese may have a genetic predisposition for obesity that has nothing to do with their consumption of foods. Thyroid problems can also cause obesity that has nothing to do with cholesterol. An obese person can be much more healthier than thin person if their cholesterol levels are way down. If a thin person’s cholesterol levels are elevated, they could still be at risk for a heart attack or a stroke. There are many thin people who have a high metabolism that helps them to maintain their weight, yet they may be eating a lot of hydrogenated trans fat foods that could eventually kill them. Everyone is at risk when eating foods high in cholesterol. People can change their lifestyles by changing the way they eat, plus taking medications or supplements that help to reduce cholesterol, as well as exercise regimens. Most people want to keep their cholesterol levels at 160. This is the ideal level for anyone. Eating foods high in fiber, and staying away from fatty foods, is what will help to keep their cholesterol levels at a safe number.
People can cut out all of the risk factors for heart disease, yet still have a heart attack or a stroke if their cholesterol levels are too high.
