How to Lower Cholesterol Levels Through Supplements

Most people who understand cholesterol levels, will most likely understand the types of foods that they need to eat in order to keep their cholesterol levels down to a safe number. Many people may not know that there are certain cholesterol supplements that can be taken which can replace certain foods that a person may not like. These supplements can help in the battle with lowering cholesterol.

Omega 3 – is a supplement that can be taken in the place of fish, if a person is either allergic to fish, or just does not like the taste. Omega 3 is known to reduce the total cholesterol level in a person, which are their total triglyceride levels.

Barley – Barley is one of the best supplements a person should take to help lower their cholesterol levels because it is the most natural substance, and there are no side effects. Barley can help lower a persons triglycerides, as well as their LDL levels.

Metamucil – Metamucil has a lot of fiber in it that will help in aiding the fight of high cholesterol. It can be bought in powder form that can be stirred into orange juice, or in pill form.

Blond Psyllium – This supplement can help lower LDL and triglycerides.

Promise – This is a supplement that can replace butter. It can be bought at any grocery store. Promise still tastes as good as butter, but it does not contain any trans fat or hydrogenated oils.

Beta-sitosterol – These can come in pill form that can be taken orally to help reduce LDL and triglycerides in the blood.

Artichoke – Artichokes in general are great cholesterol fighting foods that are high in fiber, but if people do not like the taste of artichokes, they can take this supplement in an extract form, and get the same amount of aid for fighting cholesterol.

Garlic – Garlic can be eaten by itself, or taken in an extract which will help in all forms of lowering cholesterol.

Ground flaxseed – Flaxseed can be taken in liquid oil, or as a ground form.

Oatmeal – Oatmeal or Oat Bran are great cholesterol fighting foods.

Green Tea – This can be made as a tea to drink, or be taken in an extract form. It can help in all forms of reducing cholesterol.

Most foods that are high in fiber like leafy or dark green vegetables, such as spinach, broccoli, or brussel sprouts are great cholesterol lowering foods. Checking foods for hydrogenated oils is another way to stay away from foods that can raise their cholesterol.
